How to combine indicators

Traders like combining indicators so that way they can look for hidden trends and patterns when the market is behaving a certain way. A common request we often get is combining a moving average with the Volume indicator. You can make the moving average overlay onto the Volume indicator at the bottom of your chart. Let's run through an example.

1. Right-click anywhere on your chart and then select Add Indicators.

2. Locate the indicators you wish to use. Please note, that not every indicator can be combined as you will need to make sure the indicator has a Destination and an Origin # 1 setting in the Parameters.

3. In this example, we are beginning with a Volume indicator as you see in the image above. Let's go ahead and change the Destination to be Subchart 1 instead of Source Chart or Main Chart.

4. After that, our indicator will appear on the chart. Let's repeat steps 1 & 2 and find the SMA indicator.

5. When applying the SMA there are now two settings we need to change. We need to change the Destination and the Origin #1. When changing the Destination, we want it to be the same as where we placed our Volume indicator which would be Subchart 1. After that, we change the Origin # 1 to be Volume.

6. After adjusting the settings, click Create or Apply at the bottom left corner and you should see the two indicators combined and working together.
